GOOD NEIGHBOR WORKSHOP SERIES

The Good Neighbor Fieldguide is a framework to guide you and your neighbors as you come together to identify the unique resources in your community and to activate them in creative projects. Imagine a fruit picking project to harvest and distribute food; a pop-up drive thru or a community art project — The ideas will be as innovative and diverse as your neighborhoods.

In response to what’s happening in our communities with COVID-19 we want to try an experiment. There are so many creative, compassionate people wanting to respond to the changing needs and opportunities around us. This fall, we are launching a 3 part series of online workshops to learn the elements of Good Neighbor: Asset Mapping 101, Changemaker Storyguide, and Design Thinking for Good.

GOOD NEIGHBOR DIGITAL WORKSHOP SERIES

ASSET MAPPING 101

What does it look like to reimagine a building or an empty lot and journey with neighbors to see it come to life? Is it possible that as spaces are rebuilt hope might be rebuilt? That as businesses flourish, opportunities might flourish? Asset Mapping is a practical, hands-on tool to capture and gain a better understanding of the building blocks of our communities.

Reframing our mindsets to see the potential and possibility in the buildings, streets and people we pass by every day.

OCTOBER 14 | 10am-12pm

CHANGEMAKER STORYGUIDE

To operate in community, we need to have an understanding and awareness of ourselves. What do I want to take a stand for? How do my skills, passions and experiences fit together? Can I make enough money and do something with purpose? This workshop will use the Changemakers Storyguide, a resource created by Mission City Renewal, using the ancient Japanese concept of the Ikigai as a guide for exploring these questions. Take this chance to reflect and brainstorm around the intersections of How You’re Gifted, What You Love, Needs in the World, and What You Can Sustain.

OCTOBER 28 | 10am-12pm

DESIGN THINKING FOR GOOD

Design Thinking puts people at the center of crafting creative solutions. In this interactive workshop, we will experiment with applying innovative methods to a specific challenge to spark movement and incite change. You will come away with creative problem solving strategies to apply to your business, a social issue, or both!

NOVEMBER 11 | 10am-12pm

REGISTRATION IS FREE || COMPASSION FEES ACCEPTED

In order for us to provide these tools to people who can use them for the good of our communities, we are providing seats in these seminars for free. If you could afford a portion or the full cost of the registration, you may do so as well. If you would like to pay for your cost and the cost of someone else, an empathy option is also available. No one else in the course will know who else registered at what price point.

WHO IS THIS FOR?
Good Neighbor is designed for people who are invested in the greater good of their neighborhoods. Maybe you’re an individual wondering how to make an impact. Maybe you work for a nonprofit or faith organization. Maybe you work with or for a neighborhood association, school district, or the city government. If you want to know how to inspire effective change, Good Neighbor is for you.
